Welcome to Mrs. Grinold's combined third and fourth grade class!
This is my fifth year at B.V.S. and I love it! I moved to Vermont from Arizona five years ago to live closer to my family. Vermont is an incredibly special place, but I still care deeply for the desert of the southwest. Rutland is now my home with my husband, Peter, and children, Sam and Grace. We have an Australian Cattle dog named Boomer and a leopard gecko named “Riley”. I love to be anywhere near the lakes or ocean in the summer. One can usually find me on Cape Cod, Block Island, or kayaking on the Chittenden Dam. As a teacher, I strive to create a respectful classroom where students can feel comfortable in their individual learning styles. Students help create a learning pledge that includes standards of conduct for the classroom. This pledge is referred to throughout the year. The children are reminded to respect the right to learn of every student and to celebrate our unity and individuality. The third and fourth grade class is one of excited activity. Students work both individually and collaboratively on various projects in all subjects. One can hear them discussing books in literature circles to debating the best way to graph collected data. They also learn to cooperate to solve problems and to listen to each other's ideas and points of view. The children are becoming more independent learners by setting personal goals and managing their time more wisely.
